Some of my sweetest memories began at the edge of a beehive, watching my dad work his apiary.

I grew up as a beekeeper’s daughter, where the rhythm of life was guided by the hum of honeybees. I remember often lying in the grass in front of the hives on warm afternoons, watching thousands of bees move in perfect harmony—each one with a purpose, yet together creating something deeply peaceful.

In those moments, time seemed to slow. The world felt softer, simpler, and whole.

What I didn’t realize then—but understand deeply now—is that those moments were shaping my nervous system, grounding me, and teaching me a natural state of calm and connection. There was no fear, only fascination. No individual noises, only a kind of living vibrational music.

Other times, when my parents weren’t around, I would sneak and sit on top of the beehives, watching the tiny buzzing workers return with bright, varied pollen. The steady hum beneath me felt as natural as a heartbeat.

When it was time to harvest honey, my dad would call all the neighborhood kids over, and we’d gather around a big table with pieces of honeycomb in our hands, squeezing out golden honey. We tried so hard to wait—but it was impossible not to sneak a taste before our tasks were done.

I didn’t just observe the bees—I felt deeply connected to them.

One day, I decided they deserved more than the small spoonfuls my dad and I would leave at the hive entrance. So while he was away, I brought them a whole jar of honey and set it nearby. When I returned later, hundreds of bees were inside, sinking and struggling.

I carefully lifted them out one by one, placing each tiny body gently onto the grass, determined to save them. I saved nearly every one—until one reminded me they are still wild. It’s a moment I can still smile about.

The sky would fill with bees—thousands moving together in a way that felt almost unreal. You could barely see the blue sky between them. It wasn’t frightening. It was awe-inspiring. Alive. Electric.

Years later, I experienced that feeling again when I caught my very first swarm—but this time, as a beekeeper myself.

I was resting in a hammock in my backyard, something I rarely take the time to do. Before I saw anything, I heard it—a deep, resonant hum building in the air around me. I looked up to see thousands of bees swirling above, moving into a swarm trap I had placed in the tree overhead.

I stood just feet away as they gathered, completely at ease, watching them settle into their new home. It felt deeply spiritual—calm, powerful, and alive.

In that moment, I was brought right back to those childhood afternoons—a sense of calm, awe, and connection returning all at once.

That feeling is what inspired me to design The Honeybee Sanctuary, a space where you can step out of the noise of everyday life, lie down, and be held by the gentle warmth, sweet scent, and healing hum of the hive.

Every experience is intentionally designed with deep respect for the bees and a strong commitment to safety, allowing you to relax fully in a calm and carefully guided environment.

I grew up in Hickory, NC and earned a degree in Biology with a focus on genetics and ecology from NC State. After 4 years in Raleigh, I happily moved to the Western North Carolina mountains for nursing school at WCU. After raising our 2 daughters in West Asheville, my husband and I moved to Weaverville, NC, 10 minutes north of Asheville on Reems Creek. Finally, I have the time and space to have an apiary of my own, a dream come true.

Raised in an apiary, I developed a deep respect for the natural world and a lasting appreciation for the quiet intelligence of honeybees. My work is centered around creating meaningful, close experiences with the hives.

From an early age, I was immersed in the rhythms of the hives—learning not just the practice of beekeeping, but the art of observation, patience, and coexistence. Over time, I began to recognize something profound: being near bees wasn’t just educational or productive—it was deeply calming, almost meditative.

This realization led me to explore the growing field of bee-based wellness practices, including apitherapy and hive air therapy, which have been used in various cultures for generations to support respiratory health and nervous system regulation.
This realization led me to explore the growing field of bee-based wellness practices, including apitherapy and hive air therapy, which have been used in various cultures for generations to support respiratory health and nervous system regulation.
Today, I combine my lived experience, traditional knowledge, and modern research to create a safe, nurturing environment where others can experience the restorative presence of the hive.
